Blockley Parish Council Website

Blockley Parish lies on upland farm and woodland close to the northern extremity of Cotswold District. It forms part of the boundary between the headwaters of the Rivers Thames and Severn. Significant clay deposits lie between the attractive limestone hills; springs form the main source of the several steeply-falling streams which flow through Blockley, Aston Magna and Draycott villages. By contrast, Paxford village, also within the Parish, lies on more open, level ground drained by the Knee Brook, a tributary of the River Stour.

The human and visual characteristics of Blockley Parish are strongly influenced both by its relatively isolated location in the rural North Cotswolds and by the industrial history of Blockley village, its main centre of population. With a population of about 2000 (in the 2001 census) it is one of the largest parishes in England in terms of area, at about 12 sq miles (30 sq km). The entire Parish lies within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Latest News ...

The County Council has been undertaking a major project to upgrade street lighting, with the main aim being to meet its carbon reduction target of 60% by 2020.

Skanska UK PLC has been engaged to carry out these works.
Work to upgrade the lighting within the parish has been taking place during the last 24 months in residential areas. Skanska are now returning to complete these conversions along with traffic route lighting. This remaining work will include wall brackets & wood pole-mounted units as well as some heritage lanterns.
Work may necessitate the need to temporarily reduce the pavement width and to use barriers to ensure that work can be undertaken safely. Where wall mounted units are to be converted on private properties, Skanska will inform the individual owners of the necessary works, prior to starting.
During this period, on-street parking may be affected. Residents and pedestrians are asked to be patient and as every effort is taken to minimise the inconvenience.
